Omnitek asked Scope Design for a new design for the viscosity meter S-flow. At the same time, Omnitek was working on a technical upgrade of the machine itself. Scope Design conducted research on the existing machine and field research in laboratories. At the same time, content was matched Omnitek, who worked on the update of the instrument. The new S-Flow has become a compact and visually balanced product. The graphical user interface of the new 12” touchscreen was also designed by Scope Design.

Omnitek asked Scope Design for a new design for the viscometer S-flow. At the same time, Omnitek was working on a technical upgrade of the machine itself. The S-flow had to be given a contemporary look, matching the design language of other laboratory equipment in the petrochemical industry. The desire was for a compact device with all functions and elements integrated, such as the touchscreen, the oil tank and the pressure gauge. Maintenance on the S-flow also had to be easy and possible without relocation. The existing touchscreen had to be modernised and, together with a new housing, give a high-end look to the instrument.

The approach of the project

Scope Design started the trajectory by researching the construction and functions of the existing machine and overall operation of a viscosity meter. Field research was conducted in laboratories where the machine is used and interviews were conducted with lab technicians. At the same time, content was brainstormed with Omnitek's in-house team, who worked on the update of the instrument.

THE DESIGN RESULT

The new S-Flow is one compact become a visually balanced product. By ensuring one integration of all components and functions in the instrument, Scope Design was able to create a total design for the outside. And this integration also made it possible to have one more tidy and organized workplace to be able to create in the laboratory.  

The 12-inch screen to operate the S-Flow with immediately catches the eye. Besides the touchscreen, the concept of the accompanying graphical user interface was also designed by Scope Design.

By making use of different colors to denote the various components (liquid tank, electronic components, etc.), were the use of the machine easier. The glass bottles are integrated into the machine yet kept visible. 

At the Rotterdam fair, the PEFTEK, the machine was introduced and Omnitek immediately received purchase orders.
