LIAM has asked Scope to develop an indoor means of transport , called Rollbuddy. It is intended as the first aid in the home, aimed at users with starting reduced mobility. With friendly materials and modern looks , Rollbuddy bridges the stigma that lies on a rollator. It is a product that provides in-home support for transporting drinks and food on the liftable tray, and for transporting personal items in the cloth drawer. The Rollbuddy has a brake lever over the entire width with an automatic braking system, which makes ease of use and single-handed use possible.
Potential users of the Rollbuddy are often not yet prepared to purchase a tool. There is a stigma on a walker. In addition, the design of many rollators is often carried out for the functional application, and for older users. In the design of Rollbuddy it has been important to design a tool that fits in a modern interior and appeals with its looks. To achieve that, there are modern lines and light proportions applied, and is this combined with materials from the furniture industry such as wood, felt and leather. This means that the product has also been awarded a iF award in 2022, with which it has been praised by an international jury of design experts.

THE APPROACH OF THE PROJECT

Blending IN THE INTERIOR
With the application of materials that are also often used in the furniture industry, such as wood, fabric, leather details and black metal , Rollbuddy is made in such a way that it can blend in as well as possible with the contemporary interior . The real wood provides warmth in the appearance of the product. The wooden tray can be detached and treated with an anti-slip coating to prevent your drinks or other items to be transported from sliding off the tray. The felt tray offers protection for personal items, such as a tablet, laptop and telephone, and ensures that these items can have a permanent place.
In order to match the contemporary interior as closely as possible, three different color variations have been released in addition to the homely materials. With these color variants, Rollbuddy can be chosen in such a way that it can blend in with the user's interior.
AUTOMATIC BRAKE
Rollbuddy has a completely new and self developed automatic braking system. Rollbuddy brakes by itself until the lever is pulled or put in its neutral position. This makes it an easy-to-use product, which even with one hand can be operated. Because Rollbuddy brakes on its own after a movement, the product can easily put away without it driving away.
With reduced hand strength or mobility, the product will be used with two hands and offers the extra stability that a user may need.
Design Results
In 2022, the Rollbuddy will have a iF Design Award and in 2023 one Red Dot Design Award may receive. The iF and Red Dot jury, consisting of design experts from all over the world, have awarded the design and use of the product, making the product a uniqueth position has in its market.
